'Coventry University is like a second home'

International students are full of praise for the city’s university for making them feel like they are in a home from home.

Coventry University is a multicultural University where international students represent significant number of overall students. Many of them struggle with problems such as looking for affordable accommodation, finance and employability.

Vice President Internationalisation and Culture at Coventry University Student’s Union, Blessed Pepple, said: “The main reason why international students cannot overcome those obstacles is the language barrier and the fact that they live in a new country with different culture. As a member of CUSU I always try to help by pushing them out of their comfort zone.”

Often students struggle with homesickness. Wiktoria Peksyk, first-year mathematics and statistics student from Poland, found the way to mitigate this problem: “Every student has a personal tutor who we (students) can talk to. Thank to that Coventry University feels like home – we can always lean on our tutors”.

CUSU helps international students to struggle with their problems. Blessed Pepple said: “We have different services at University. CUSU is a first place where you should look for help. They will always be there to help you”. There are many societies and programmes at Coventry University that help international students such as National Union of Students and Coventry University Student’s Union.

If you are an international student at Coventry University and you have a problem that you cannot solve on your own, you can contact Blessed Pepple or visit the CUSU website.
